Comparison of TCP Reno and Vegas in Wireless Mobile Ad Hoc Networks

چکیده
TCP Reno is the most popular TCP version right now although it was reported as less efficient than the newer Vegas version. In this paper, we investigate and evaluate the performance of these two TCP algorithms in wireless mobile ad hoc networks, which are characterized by multi-hop wireless connectivity and frequently changing network topology. After extensively comparing of them in simulations, we exhibit that Reno may have a serious instability problem which will cause its goodput performance to degrade. Vegas does not suffer from this. We also show how to avoid this problem in Reno by tuning a TCP parameter to a specific value. Another important observation is that TCP Vegas does not outperform Reno when they set this parameter at the same ideal value. There is no major difference between Vegas and Reno, when set at the ideal parameter, even in a mobile environment.

Performance evaluation of TCP algorithms in multi-hop wireless packet networks
Wireless packet ad hoc networks are characterized by multi-hop wireless connectivity and limited bandwidth competed among neighboring nodes. In this paper, we investigate and evaluate the performance of several prevalent TCP algorithms in this kind of network over the wireless LAN standard IEEE 802.11 MAC layer. After extensively comparing the existing TCP versions (including Tahoe, Reno, New R...

Mobile ad hoc network congestion control is a significant problem. Standard mechanism for congestion control (TCP), the ability to run certain features of a wireless network, several mutations are not common. In particular, the enormous changes in the network topology and the joint nature of the wireless network. It also creates significant challenges in mobile ad hoc networks (MANET), density ...

A Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is considered an autonomous collection of wireless mobile nodes that are capable of communicating with each other without the use of a network infrastructure or any centralized Administration. MANETs have a wide range of applications from military to search and rescue operations during disaster. In the research work, Mobile Ad-hoc Network protocols like AODV, DSD...
